Floating bombs, underwater bombs and a silent navy

So in today’s edition of WTF I’ve just seen that there is a Russian ship with 20,000 tonnes of explosives (ammonium nitrate) at anchor off the Kent coast. Remembering that there is a World War 2 US munitions ship, SS Montgomery, sunk just off Sheerness and Southend I thought I’d investigate blast radii. Turns out that the Maritime Safety board have advised against any disturbance of the site in case that results in a detonation of the 1400 tonnes of explosives on board which would then have a blast radius of 30 miles. As we are talking about 20,000 tonnes of explosives on board the Russian vessel we are talking about a shockwave 15 times more powerful than that. The distance between the 2 ships is currently 50 miles and any explosion would definitely count as disturbing the site I reckon!

We currently spend 56 billion on defence with another 200 wanted for the ridiculous Trident upgrade project yet seemingly don’t notice anything done to us by the Russians. Salisbury comes immediately to mind along with Litvinenko and the dozens of other suspicious unalivings of Russian dissidents.

This is all just an observation as I know nothing about such matters, just following logic, but seems to me to be a very obvious warning to us!!
